Leonhard Kurz's InLine Foiling decoration approved by RecyClass

Fuerth/Germany, 24/11/2020: The Kurz InLine Foiling decoration technology is compatible with the HDPE containers recycling stream, independent testing confirms. The analysis was carried out by IKTR laboratory as per the RecyClass Recyclability Evaluation Protocol.

The InLine Foiling decoration, which allows for obtaining silver and gold effects, is applied on HDPE tubes and bottles. It consists in transferring the decoration layer to the packaging by deposing few microns of several layers including top coats, metallization and a UV curable adhesive.

The laboratory analysis revealed no negative impact on the recycling process, given the defined conditions. These include, among others, that the decoration does not represent more than 30% of the total surface coverage and that no additional printing technology is applied.

The tested InLine Foiling decoration process generates recyclates that can be used in the manufacturing of high-quality injection molding applications, with up to 25% concentration.

The results of the analyses demonstrate yet another technology which defines design for recycling as one of the core features in the manufacturing of plastic packaging. This objective is an enabler for increasing the circularity of plastics in Europe.
