LEONHARD KURZ publishes 2025 Sustainability Report

Fuerth/Germany, August 13, 2026: LEONHARD KURZ has published its 2025 Sustainability Report. In the report, the specialist in surface finishing and thin-film technology outlines its progress in environmental and climate protection, social responsibility, and sustainable supply chains. The report demonstrates how KURZ is advancing its sustainability goals through concrete measures and measurable results.

Focus on Sustainable Energy Supply

One of the company's key sustainability priorities is reducing CO₂ emissions. Today, KURZ already sources 100 percent of the electricity used at its German sites in Fürth and Sulzbach-Rosenberg from renewable energy sources. At the same time, the company continues to expand its own renewable energy generation. In 2025, more than 13 GWh of the company's electricity demand was supplied by photovoltaic systems.

Last year, KURZ also began construction of a power-to-heat system with thermal energy storage at its Sulzbach-Rosenberg production site to decarbonize process heat for part of its manufacturing operations. The system is expected to be commissioned by fall 2026 and will reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 700 metric tons per year. It uses surplus solar power generated by the adjacent ground-mounted photovoltaic installation to produce process heat while storing excess energy for later use.

These initiatives support the company's sustainability objective of significantly reducing Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions.

Responsibility Throughout the Supply Chain

Through the regular evaluation of its most strategically important suppliers based on defined environmental, social, and quality criteria, KURZ assumes responsibility throughout its supply chain.

KURZ's commitment to sustainable supply chains has also received external recognition. As part of its empirical analysis of the implementation of Germany's Supply Chain Due Diligence Act (LkSG), the UN Global Compact Network Germany recognized the company as a Good Practice example. The analysis, ‘Germany's Supply Chain Due Diligence Act,’ was based on 313 publicly available reports from the first reporting cycle under the LkSG (2023/24).

Membership of the UN Global Compact

Since 2021, KURZ has been a participant in the United Nations Global Compact, committing to the UN's principles on human rights, labor standards, environmental protection, and anti-corruption.

In addition, KURZ was once again awarded the EcoVadis Silver Medal in 2025, placing the company among the top 15 percent of all companies assessed worldwide and the top 6 percent within its industry.
