Creative packaging design, digital innovations, and lots of sustainability: KURZ at LUXE PACK Monaco

Fürth/Germany, 09/22/2022: From October 3 to 5, 2022, LUXE PACK, the high-end trade fair for creative luxury goods packaging, will take place in the Principality of Monaco. It attracts premium packaging manufacturers from all over the world to the independent city state on the French Mediterranean coast to showcase their most creative developments in design, digital innovation, and sustainability technologies. LEONHARD KURZ will once again be exhibiting at LUXE PACK this year. In addition to a new edition of the established ‘boxes’ packaging concept, LEONHARD KURZ will also be presenting numerous innovations from the fields of cold transfer, hot stamping, and digital finishing at stand DB11. The tool manufacturer Hinderer + Mühlich (H+M) is also on board again. At LUXE PACK, the KURZ subsidiary will present the latest stamping technologies using an exclusive poster with various finishes.

KURZ will also take a stand on the issue of sustainability and demonstrate live on-site what measures are being taken to further reduce the Group’s carbon footprint. At the same time, visitors can gain insights into the family-owned company’s extensive commitment to environmental protection and learn why sustainability and finishing go hand in hand with KURZ transfer solutions.

The focal topics of the Fürth-based thin-film specialist include various exhibits decorated using digital finishing systems. Visitors to the KURZ stand can see for themselves what impressive finishings can be implemented, for example, with the DM-MAXLINER 3D. We worked with our subsidiary Steinemann DPE, who developed the complete machine system, and the global provider of high-quality packaging solutions, Edelmann Group, to finish the cover of the exclusive magazine Formes de Luxe. Digital spot coating and digital metallization were used to create unique glossy and haptic effects.

A success story continues

The ongoing optimization of products is very important to KURZ. With KPS slim (patent pending), KURZ will present the further development of the successful and highly efficient overall solution KPS SX+, a true all-rounder for finishing in sheet-fed printing. KPS slim (patent pending) is based on the tried-and-tested cold transfer formulation with excellent gloss, high opacity, and impressive edge definition - and can also be used to create grid gradients very well. At the same time, the new solution impresses with even higher efficiency and greater sustainability. The ‘slim’ in the name of the new technology must be taken literally, as the thickness of the PET carrier material could be halved (6 μm instead of 12 μm as before). On the one hand, this results in higher efficiency due to longer running times with fewer reel changes. On the other hand, less waste is generated during production, and the lower weight of the rollers reduces the carbon footprint. The new cold transfer solution is suitable for decorating a wide range of substrates and enables a variety of design options even with recycled, difficult, or thin materials. In addition, the new formulation, which is patent pending, also boasts outstanding application properties and high processing efficiency.

With LIGHT LINE® inVISIBLE, KURZ will present a new finishing technology within the well-known LIGHT LINE® product series. The innovative transfer product for cold-transfer roller applications is a transparent diffractive design with perfect color play and dazzling reflections. As a real innovation, some of the LIGHT LINE® inVISIBLE designs were combined with the exclusive KURZ trend colors. These colors are identified each year by the thin-film specialist’s interdisciplinary design team following extensive research and reflect current social trends. The combination of the semi-transparent color and the respective LIGHT LINE® design creates impressive, novel effects. KURZ customers can, however, not only choose from the existing color and effect combinations, but also opt for individual color matching on request, using the colors and LIGHT LINE® designs they have selected.

Sustainability and future prospects with ‘boxes No. 2’

KURZ will be exhibiting at LUXE PACK Monaco with a two-part stand concept. Half of the stand is reserved for the aforementioned finishing solutions. The second half of the stand will see KURZ present ‘boxes No. 2’, a new edition of the annual packaging series ‘boxes,’ which is inspired by four different trends. As in the previous year, the current issue also places particular emphasis on sustainability. All four packages are finished using the hot stamping process with specially developed trend colors and new LIGHT LINE® designs.
